On January 10th, Pedro Alonso, Director of the Global Malaria Planning Department of the World Health Organization (hereinafter referred to as "WHO" visited Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine to discuss cooperation on the elimination of malaria in the Greater Mekong Sub-region. Academician Huang Luqi, Dean of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Vice President Yang Longhui, Director of International Cooperation Song Ping, Chief Researcher Jiang Tingliang, Researcher Liao Fulong, Deputy Director of Artemisinin Research Center Wang Jigang, Deputy Director of the Office of Chinese Medicine Institute Jin Li, etc. participated in the symposium .

 

The Greater Mekong Sub-region refers to the 6 countries and regions along the Mekong River Basin, including Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Yunnan Province of China. At present, in the Greater Mekong Subregion, Cambodia's antimalarial form is relatively severe, and it is the most important core area for artemisinin to produce "drug resistance". The two sides hope that through this cooperation, they can completely eliminate the spread of malaria in Cambodia, and at the same time, they can provide references for other countries and contribute to the global malaria elimination work.

 

Yang Longhui gave Pedro Alonso an overview of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and explained the difficulties involved in the project. Wang Jigang made a report on "Artemisinin Resistance and Malaria Elimination Program in Cambodia". Pedro Alonso highly appreciates China's outstanding contribution to the global elimination of malaria, and expresses that WHO is willing to cooperate in depth with the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences on malaria elimination in the Greater Mekong Subregion and can provide the necessary technical support and assistance .

 

Huang Luqi said that the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medicine attaches great importance to and actively supports this cooperation, and recommends that the Artemisinin Research Center, WHO and Cambodia form a three-party malaria elimination working group to jointly improve the anti-malarial program, and hopes that the program will be approved by WHO With long-term support. In addition, Huang Luqi expressed the hope to cooperate with WHO in other infectious diseases.
