Today, the Sino-Austrian Collaborating Centre for Chinese Medical Sciences jointly established by China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Eurasia-Pacific Uninet formally opens. On behalf of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, I would like to extend our warm congratulations on the establishment of the centre as well as cordial greetings to experts and scholars from China and Austria who have made contributions to the academic exchange and cooperation in Traditional Chinese Medicine between the two countries.
Traditional Chinese medicine is the valuable wealth that has been accumulated in the long-term struggling of Chinese nation against disease. Its effective practice and abundant knowledge contain profound scientific connotation, which is an important component of Chinese splendid culture and has made indelible contributions to procreation and prosperity of Chinese nation as well as health of mankind.
As the development of social economy and advancement of modern science and technology, there have been enormous changes in living environment and the medical mode, medical service mode and disease spectrum of human beings are transforming. When modern medicine can not meet fully the needs of people for preventing and treating of diseases and maintaining of health, the international community has already realized that the combination of the health idea and effective medical practice of integration of traditional medicine including traditional Chinese medicine with modern medicine may possibly provide a new mode of health care to mankind
Some countries have increased their support to traditional medicine including traditional Chinese medicine in the aspects of law, standard and market admittance. WHO has emphasized that traditional medicine can play an important role in realizing Health for All.
The huge value of traditional Chinese medicine in medical health care and science as well as enormous market potential has attracted attention in the whole world with constant increasing of international market demand. This has also enjoyed great attention of Chinese government. In The Outline for Planning of Innovation and Development in Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly released by 16 Chinese government institutions such as Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Health, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and so on, inheriting, innovation, modernization and internationalization were clearly put forward as the four missions of future development of traditional Chinese medicine. Among them, internationalization means that through strengthening international academic exchange and cooperation of traditional Chinese medicine, the theories and practice method of traditional Chinese medicine will win recognition from international community, the service and products of traditional Chinese medicine will enter gradually the international mainstream market of medicine and health care and the unique mode of medical health care and rehabilitation of traditional Chinese medicine and its value will gradually be understood and accepted by international community to speed up the development of traditional Chinese medicine and make more contributions to the health of people in the world.
At present, the main tasks of promoting international development of traditional Chinese medicine is to set up the standard and criterion that suits the characteristic of traditional Chinese medicine and try to make it as the international standard traditional Chinese medicine, to strengthen research and development of medical and health care products that accord with international market demand, to strive for the legal status of traditional Chinese medicine so that it may enter the systems of hospitals, drugstores and medical insurance in western countries, to establish the internationalized platform of research and technology in traditional Chinese medicine as well as information and talents team, to promote actively the cooperation of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and production as well as academic and technological exchange in traditional Chinese medicine and to promote effective spreading of knowledge and culture of traditional Chinese medicine through joint hospitals, schools and research institutions.
The Sino-Austrian Collaborating Center for Chinese Medical Sciences, jointly established on the basis of strong points and advantages of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Eurasia-Pacific Uninet, is a beneficial exploring to promote internationalized development of traditional Chinese medicine.
I hope that the experts and scholars of two countries can make joint efforts, explore actively the effective way of cooperation, launch extensively high-level bilateral practical cooperation, respect and protect economic benefits and intellectual property right of all participating sides with mutual benefit and realize win-win cooperation.
Dear friends, it should be a common cause to promote the development of traditional Chinese medicine for people who are devoted to the health of mankind in the world and it should be a necessary trend and way to launch international exchange and cooperation of traditional Chinese medicine for its development. Today’s opening of the collaborating centreis just a starting point of cooperation and research in traditional Chinese medicine between China and Austria and the task of innovation and development in the future will be more arduous. But I believe, so long as both sides can cooperate in good faith and explore with efforts, we will make more splendid achievements!
